Assistive Technology Educational Network
The Assistive Technology Educational Network (ATEN) provides information, awareness,
and training for students, family members, teachers, and other professionals
on issues related to assistive technology. ATEN employs a highly specialized
staff consisting of regional assistive technology specialists and support staff.
These services are for students in Florida ages 3-22 and are free of charge.
Some of the services include: technical assistance to Local Assistive Technology
Specialists, therapists, teachers, and parents, a resource lab, assistive technology
awareness, short-term loan of assistive devices, print resources, and device
operation training.
ATEN is supported by 5 regional centers located throughout the state of Florida.
These centers assist ATEN in providing training and resources to counties in
their service region. The Region 2 FDLRS/ATEN Center, located in Palatka, provides
opportunities for educators, agency personnel, consumers, and family members
in the 21 counties it serves, to receive training and demonstration in the latest
assistive technology. The Regional Lab houses an array of assistive technology,
voice and print output devices, adaptations for computers, hearing and vision
equipment, environmental controls and mobility equipment. See the figure below
